SP19-01 – The Old Testament with Christ Focused Eyes - Men's Bible Study

Instructor: Pastor Paul Abeyta

Meeting Info: Ongoing (until we go through every OT book) - Wednesdays: 6:00am - 6:45am @FFC

Description: In this class you will go over key texts in the Old Testament that contain shadows and types of Christ and his work of redemption. Truly, the whole Bible is on the topic of Christ and his work of redemption. We can make a line from any text to this, and we should. But there are also many events which happened in the recorded biblical history that remind us Christ in a special way. It is often called the "Apostolic Hermeneutic" and reading the Bible in this way will help to grow you in Christ and your love for the gospel. Essentially - we are trying to learn to read the Old Testament with this question in our minds - 'what does this teach me about Christ, or help me to understand his work of redemption.'

Each week, a new verse or passage will be assigned. The group will open with prayer, asking God to make us holy men and give us grace to lead in our homes and follow him where he has us. Then we'll discuss the text and spend a few more minutes in prayer. Feel free to join at any time and have some fellowship in the Word before you go to work, or before the rest of your family is even awake possibly. SP19-03 –  Worship Matters

Instructor: Matt Sherman

Starting Date:  Ongoing

Meeting info: Sundays: During 2nd service @ FFC

Description:  Nothing is more essential than knowing how to worship the God who created us. This book focuses readers on the essentials of God-honoring worship, combining biblical foundations with practical application in a way that works in the real world. The author, a pastor and noted songwriter, skillfully instructs pastors, musicians, and church leaders so that they can root their congregational worship in unchanging scriptural principles, not divisive cultural trends. Bob Kauflin covers a variety of topics such as the devastating effects of worshiping the wrong things, how to base our worship on God's self-revelation rather than our assumptions, the fuel of worship, the community of worship, and the ways that eternity's worship should affect our earthly worship.

Appropriate for Christians from varied backgrounds and for various denominations, this book will bring a vital perspective to what readers think they understand about praising God.

Instructor: Jeff Strawther

Starting Date: Feb 6th

Meeting info: Wednesdays @ 7:00pm at the Strawther home

Description: “Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?” ―Dr. Del Tackett
Does God exist? Can we prove the existence of God, or are we left to grapple in the dark and take blind leaps of faith about what we believe? Everyone asks these questions, and maybe you think you have the answers. But can you defend your beliefs when peers and professors are challenging your worldview? In TrueU: Does God Exist? Dr. Stephen Meyer plays a sort of “philosophical survival” game pitting four worldviews against one another in the quest to decide which one gives the best answers. Dr. Meyer helps you examine the evidence and provides the tools needed to defend your faith and make it your own. This course will cover 10 different topics over a thirty minute video, with time for discussion before and after.

Materials Needed/Cost: Bible / study guide
